I made this vid to promote the genius that is N:TJI and also for people such as yourself Mitnal who get stuck. I plan on eventually having a video of all the major missions.
How you find it useful

Originally by: Akita T Use the same tactic people in EVE use near POS shields
Keep all your ships near the edge. Overheat your "turret" weapons, hold the ammo-using ones. Peek out of the shield whenever any of their ships come a bit closer, make some fast overkills, dive back into the shield. Repeat until most support is gone OR until they start forming up for their fort-shield-busting beam, in case you make a run for it and give it all you've got, all guns blazing.
Of course, it can work "honestly" too, as long as you ignore the "get behind the fort shield" recommendation from the NPCs. They do say that, don't they ? It's been a while since I played it...
Doesnt work, the gorgs retreat to outside your range and then form a seige laser which is very bad. You have to leave the fort shield to do the mission

Edited by: Legionos McGuiros on 07/04/2009 23:55:17 Look forward to when you ask for help on the Battle for Earth (2nd to last) mission if First Blood is troubling you
Seriously though, watch my vid, kit ya ships out how ive suggested and ull do fine. And ignore the guy above me, try and keep the ships under your permanent command (ie Brutus/Sparta/Avalanche/Guardian) in one peice, having them die will result in difficulties down the line as its all about the resource points, the longer you have those ships, the more resource points ull get, the better equipment you can stick on them. As replaced ships come with basic fittings and the amount of cumulative resource points that ship will have will be lower and so you wont be able to pimp it out.
And trust me, with the later missions pimpimg your ships out matters very much so. Also all the ships are important and kitting them out with the best stuff (not to mention the crew experience) will do wonders for you. The destroyers have very useful and can be the difference between losing and winning.

Mitnal:
Once the shield is up the gorgs retreat to a safe distance to use the seige laser, i generally dont remain within the shield for very long as i pursue them with all haste.
I shot the EM bomb directly at one of the escort cruisers, it takes out like 80% of its shields and then with a coordinated focus fire from the fleet it shield and then hull gets destroyed quickly.
If your lucky when the fort-shield goes up youll catch a gorg within and with focused fire and without shields it goes down quick aswell.
As you saw i lost one of the frigates, those really are insignificant and as you dont keep these ships (there for that mission only) they are expendable and better have the gorgs focus on them than your main ships.
One of my personal preferences, i dont like my fighters getting shot down so i use them sparingly in engagements.
Alwas fit the best equipment you can. For that mission my loadouts were as follows:
Angelwing 2 Bubble ES 2 Particle GG Overload BS Neutron HT 2 Spark Fighters
Sparta 1 Energy Shell 2 Silver GG 2 Spark Fighters
Brutus 2 Energy Shells 1 Silver GG 1 Spark Fighter

Mitnal i bet you feel foolish
The advice I and everyone else in the thread should be enough, its down to you now! If your having trouble on this mission i dread to think what will happen in the future ones.
Btw ive uploaded more Nexus mission vids since you watched my First Blood vid, they hopefully will help you in the later missions and youll probabl notice mistakes that i make etc

Edited by: Legionos McGuiros on 13/04/2009 18:47:37 Tbh the mission is trivial enough that you dont need to micro-manage as much, when a ship of yours is under attack boosting its shield by 50% power is enough to keep it going (you dont want to give it a full power boost for too long as it drains the batteries to a point it will take them awhile to recover). Other than that you can leave the ships on semi-autonomous and they will assign weapons when they see fit but will also follow your commands.
Its largely about timing, a well place EM Bomb shot executed with a coordinated strike from your fleet can take out a gorg ship (including the cruiser) quickly, i suggest going for the cruiser first and a well place EM bomb (ie directly on it) will take a large portio of its shield out.
The human lasers are quite ineefective and especially in the later missions when you afce other ships (i wont spoil it) they are even worse. Ghost lasers however are very good but ill let you figure out how to acquire them
I wouldnt reccomend missiles, powerful yes but unlike torpedoes they can be shot down by enemy fighters and flak systems.

For non weapons i suggest:
2 Support Generators on EVERY ship As many Batteries/Cells as you can fit ECM, ECCM, Sensor Array Combat/Deflection Drive
Engines, Shields, Weapon Generator and Flak systems should be standard
If you get VERY stuck on Sneaking ill be happy to make a video and upload onto youtube. Ive also got videos of other missions (only the 'interesting' ones atm )
Try and update these at every possible moment, they are just as important as your weapons. 2 Support Generators and batteries/cells give you a bigger and faster recharging energy reserve and most of the missions having subsystems on +150-200-250% is usually the difference between winning and losing.

Hmm I think ill have to do a video for Sneaking, I tried several different routes but there is one that for me has the highest 'percentage' of not being caught but it be better to show then to explain. Ill have it on youtube by tomorrow

Thats my playlist for all the videos ive done for Nexus so far
